Structure

Properties

Appearance    (1), slightly yellow to yellow waxy solid.

Solubility    slightly soluble to soluble in water.

Stability    stable.

Risk    Solid form: flammable material; irritation, irritation to skin, eye, respiratory system. Harmful products of combustion are CO, CO2 and so on. Contact with strong oxidants, can cause to burn.

GHS label:

Ecology    may be hazardous to environment. Water body should be given special attention.

Biodegradability    biodegradable.

Characteristics    excellent cleansing, emulsifying, dispersing, wetting, solubilizing, lubricating abilities. Low foaming. Good compatibility. Can be compounded with cationic surfactants without affecting each other. Mild surfactant. Performance varies with EO number. When used as auxiliary emulsifying agent, can maintain stability of emulsion.

Note    (1), 1,4-dioxane generated during polyether preparation: probable carcinogen. However, can be acceptable when concentration of 1,4-dioxane is less than 30ppm or less.

Synthesis

(1), Chloroacetic acid process (Discontinuous process)

PEG stearamide react with chloroacetic acid, sodium hydroxide, and neutralized by hydrochloric acid, then obtained.

The residual amount of sodium chloroacetate should be controlled in this process.
