Structure

Schematic formula:

Properties

Appearance    (1), liquid; or solid.

Solubility    slightly soluble to soluble in water. Determined by the ratio of EO and PO

Stability    stable.

Risk    Liquid form: irritation, irritation to skin, eye.

GHS label:

Ecology    may be hazardous to environment. Water body should be given special attention.

Biodegradability    biodegradable.

Characteristics    excellent cleansing, emulsifying, dispersing, wetting, permeating, solubilizing, lubricating abilities. Performance varies with EO number, PO number. The foaming ability can be controlled by adjusting EO/PO ratio.

Note    (1), 1,4-dioxane generated during polyether preparation: probable carcinogen. However, can be acceptable when concentration of 1,4-dioxane is less than 30ppm or less.

Synthesis

(1), Chloroacetic acid process (Discontinuous process)

Obtained that polyether react with chloroacetic acid, sodium hydroxide.

The residual amount of sodium chloroacetate should be controlled in this process.

(2), Direct oxidation process (Continuous process)

Under the action of catalyst, polyether is directly oxidized and neutralized by sodium hydroxide, then obtained.

The advantage of this process is that the final product does not contain sodium chloroacetate and sodium chloride.
