Appearance    (1), brown-red liquid; (2), solid.

Solubility    insoluble in water.

Stability    stable.

Risk    Solid form: flammable material; irritation, moderate irritation to skin, eye, respiratory. Harmful products of combustion are CO, CO2 and so on. Contact with strong oxidants, can cause to burn.

GHS label:

Liquid form: flammable material; irritation, moderate irritation to skin, eye. Harmful products of combustion are CO, CO2 and so on. Contact with strong oxidants, can cause to burn.

GHS label:

Ecology    may be hazardous to environment. Water body should be given special attention.

Biodegradability    biodegradable.

Characteristics    excellent cleansing, antirust, anticorrosive, lubricating, emulsifying, solubilizing, dispersing abilities. Synergies compatibility with low alkali calcium petroleum sulfonate.

Synthesis

Currently, sulfonation reaction through continuous reactor (such as: falling film reactor) is the most widely used method for preparing sulfonates.

Generally, distillate oil and sulfur trioxide react through reactor, then magnesium hydroxide neutralizes, finally obtain product.

US patent 8,921,588 (Process for preparing sulfates and/or sulfonates in a micro-reaction system) presents a synthetic process.

Major Uses

1, Typical applications

Use as oil detergent.

Use as rust inhibitor, anticorrosive agent.

Use as lubricant.

2, Petrochemical

Use as oil detergent widely. Has a good oil cleansing performance under high temperature. Has a good acid neutralizing performance. Synergies compatibility with ashless agent, antioxidant and corrosion inhibitor.

Mainly used in the preparation of high-grade internal combustion engine lubricating oil.

Can significantly reduce the high temperature deposits on the engine parts, keep the piston clean, reduce the mechanical corrosion, and can extend the oil change period.
